ARTIST STATEMENT LAURIE VESTØL, JUNE 2022

Bliss is found in the calm of the moment. It emerges in the flow of artmaking, the ephemerality of wind, water, growth, and shape. The subconscious is freed and imagination escapes. My body awakens to connections between the psyche and earth.

How can artists help reintroduce nature into our public spaces and cultural conversation? A seemingly unbridgeable gap has opened between humans and the natural world causing the collapse of our planet’s ecosystems.

As a relational artist and landscape architect in Norway, I am putting together co-creative teams that explore the biological, cultural, and emotional needs of a place together with its citizens. We introduce artistic concepts into the collective imagination and reinterpret the structural beauty of a city. The community engages with the site in transformative ways.
